JOB TITLE: JV FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT

DEPARTMENT: FINANCE

LOCATION: Central London (Regent's Place, NW1) Hybrid – 4 days in office

REPORTING TO: Head of JV Finance

TYPE OF CONTRACT: FTC (12 months)

THE ROLE

The 12 strong Financial Reporting Team are responsible for preparing BL’s internal and external Group results, as well as statutory and management reporting and board papers for its joint ventures and funds.

We are looking for a motivated, technical and numerate individual to join our Financial Reporting team, working on the joint venture results and consolidation within the wider group. This is a financial accountant position and involves working closely with the Financial Reporting Management and commercial teams, as well as stakeholder management, contribution to business analysis and decision-making and relationship building both externally and across the wider Finance team.

What You’ll Do

  • Reporting: Responsible for the day-to-day finance matters and reporting for the joint venture
  • Stakeholder management: Act as a reliable first point of contact for a number of people within BL, as well as external JV partners regarding financial aspects of the venture
  • Management information: Providing the finance elements of the quarterly board packs ready for presentation and discussion at quarterly board meetings
  • Performance: Analysis of actual performance versus budget/forecast for the Finance Business Partners and wider finance team
  • Cash management: Close review of cash balances and funding requirements and preparation of quarterly cash flow statement under the direct method.
  • Accounting memos: Preparation of technical accounting memos to support the accounting treatment of various transactions that occur in the JV.
  • Funding: Calculation of and accounting for the complex funding requirements and quarterly dividends/distributions to shareholders. This involves jointly forecasting expenditure with the asset managers and property analysts, negotiation of funding approaches with Corporate Finance and JV partners, and presentation to the JV Board.
  • Management accounts: Preparation of JV management accounts, including co-ordination of information from internal sources (Treasury, Tax etc.).
  • Statutory accounts: Preparation of statutory accounts, including disclosures and ensuring reviews from stakeholders within the Tax and Treasury teams, Company Directors and auditors.
  • Operating forecast preparation for the annual business plan.
  • Strong technical understanding of the complex corporate structure and ability to articulate this to the wider financial reporting team.
  • Covenant Reviews: Undertake assessment of financial covenant strength of new & existing customers.
  • Transactions: Work alongside Tax, Treasury and Capital Markets Team on corporate transactions and restructures.
  • Ad-hoc: Prepare analyses to assist management in understanding the business and decision-making.

About You

  • Degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent qualification.
  • Qualified Accountant (ICAEW or equivalent) with strong technical skills.
  • Experience working in top accounting firms.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with accountants and non-accountants, managing a number of stakeholders, including those significantly more senior.
  • Comfortable taking on ownership and responsibility, whilst being effective working collaboratively.
  • Demonstrating commercial awareness.
  • Comfortable working on a “big picture” or highly detailed basis; able to manage a portfolio of responsibilities, prioritise and meet tight deadlines.
  • Confident analysing complex transactions and distilling into salient features.
  • Experience with production of audit or statutory accounts.
  • Ability to produce well thought through, clearly laid out and expressed schedules and papers.
  • Excellent Excel and data analysis skills.
