Hiring: Kafka Admin Lead | Contract

Location: London

Work Mode: Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week

Job Type: Contract

We are looking for an experienced Kafka Admin Lead with strong expertise in Apache Kafka, Confluent Platform, Kafka administration, and production-grade streaming platforms. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of Kafka internals, cloud environments, security, automation, monitoring, and high-availability architectures.

Experience Required:

  • 12+ years of overall experience.
  • 5–10 years of experience in Platform Engineering / SRE / DevOps.
  • 3+ years of dedicated Kafka / Confluent administration experience in production environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision, configure, and manage Kafka clusters including Apache Kafka KRaft/ZooKeeper-based deployments and Confluent Platform components.
  • Manage Confluent Cloud resources and optimize cluster performance, scalability, and cost.
  • Ensure high availability and resilience across multi-AZ and multi-region environments.
  • Manage partitions, replication, ISR, rack awareness, quotas, throttling, and back-pressure strategies.
  • Plan and execute Kafka upgrades, patching, backup, and restore activities.
  • Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, secret management, and secure connectivity.
  • Govern topic naming standards, retention policies, schema evolution, and PII handling.
  • Monitor Kafka health using metrics, logs, and tracing platforms.
  • Define and manage SLOs/SLIs including latency, consumer lag, broker health, and throughput.
  • Analyze performance bottlenecks, partition skew, storage, network, and JVM-related issues.
  • Automate Kafka cluster and topic lifecycle using Terraform, Helm, and GitOps practices.
  • Manage Kafka Connect distributed workers and connectors including JDBC, Debezium CDC, S3/ADLS/GCS, and Elasticsearch integrations.
  • Administer Schema Registry, ksqlDB/Flink streaming workloads, and multi-tenant governance.
  • Design secure, low-latency connectivity across data centres and cloud environments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Confluent Certified Administrator for Apache Kafka (CCAAK).
  • CKA/CKAD Certification.
  • HashiCorp Terraform Associate Certification.
  • Cloud certifications across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with Confluent for Kubernetes (CFK) deployments.
