What will I be doing?
Kaluza Product Specialists are the retail-energy experts who build the processes that catch what the core platform automation misses. When a customer journey breaks across billing, contracts and metering at once, no single product team owns the fix and the platform doesn't yet cover it. That is our work: find the affected accounts in the data, apply the correct and compliant remediation through internal platform APIs, and audit every action so the outcome is defensible to a client and a regulator.
You'll sit within KPS, part of Product & Tech Operations alongside Client Support and Platform Performance Assurance. Some of what reaches you arrives by escalation from the Client Support teams and service desk, from incident and problem management, or from a product team that has hit the edge of what its own domain can resolve.
Key Responsibilities
Escalation & In-Depth Analysis
- Take escalations from Client Support, incident and problem management, and product teams, and own the analysis through to a decided course of action
- Identify the genuinely affected cohort across multiple platform domains, rather than the cohort that's easiest to query
- Decide the correct and compliant remediation, accounting for regulatory limits (back-billing, customer protection obligations) and downstream financial and accounting effects
- Feed findings back into the originating incident or problem with the evidence and trace references behind them to avoid silent resolutions
- Judge, at intake, whether something is a one-off cohort or a recurring pattern that warrants a built process
Data Engineering & Cohort Detection
- Build and own scheduled SQL models (dbt on Databricks, Dataform on BigQuery) that detect broken journeys and output the accounts currently needing action
- Work within our multi-client SQL framework, layered models, DAGs and dependencies, lineage, versioning and auditing and keep outputs accurate as upstream data and business rules move underneath them
- Interrogate data across billing, ledger, payments, reads, contracts and industry domains to validate a hypothesis before it becomes a fix

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Process Automation & API Integration
- Write Python processes that read the operational table, build the conditional journey logic, and call internal platform APIs account by account
- Audit every attempt, request, response, trace token, timestamp and outcome to our data platform and Datadog, because an unauditable remediation isn't a remediation
- Build in the safety that regulated work demands: dry runs, rate limiting, and the ability to roll back
- Deliver ad-hoc remediation at pace when an incident calls for it, working from your own query against a shared execution environment
Infrastructure & Operational Readiness
- Deploy processes as scheduled, monitored infrastructure defined in Terraform, AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS) for our legacy clients, Kubernetes CronJobs on KMI for Gen2, with Temporal ahead
- Configure monitoring, alerting and runbooks so a process can run silently and safely, and so failures reach a human
- Contribute to the global build with local extensibility direction: shared code, client-specific configuration, and patterns that carry across regions rather than being rebuilt per client
Product & Feature Delivery Support
- Pick up planned initiative and client-requested delivery through the AKPS backlog, meeting Definition of Ready and Definition of Done including monitoring, alerting and documentation
- Embed with value-stream and product teams where a delivery needs operational depth around the platform
- Support industry-wide programmes where platform coverage doesn't yet exist
Continuous Improvement
- Push recurring manual intervention back to Product & Tech as a signal for a systemic fix, and be honest about where a KPS process is covering for a gap that should be closed properly
- Reduce manual effort through automation and AI as a default
- Share patterns and learnings across regions and with the wider engineering community
About You
Ideally you’ll have/be
- Deep retail-energy domain knowledge such as billing, contracts, payments, metering and reads, industry processes, built up in customer service, retailer or industry operations, and an understanding of the regulatory obligations that sit over them
- Strong SQL, with experience building and maintaining data models (dbt, Dataform or similar) rather than only querying them
- Solid Python, ideally including calling and integrating REST APIs
- A forensic approach to problem-solving: you'll trace a journey through logs, metrics and data to establish what actually happened rather than what was reported
- Comfortable working across several domains at once and holding the whole picture, not just your own patch
- Careful with clients customers and data you understand why an audit trail and testing matters before an action touches live accounts
- Willing to use AI tooling to raise your own throughput, and clear-eyed about where expert oversight is non-negotiable
- Able to manage competing priorities between scheduled delivery and reactive escalation, and to switch between them without losing either
- Strong written communication, with the confidence to explain a technical finding to a client-facing colleague or a senior stakeholder and be understood

What will set you apart
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and cloud infrastructure (AWS), including serverless and container/scheduling patterns (Lambda, Step Functions, Kubernetes CronJobs) or a genuine appetite to learn them quickly
- Experience with observability tooling (Datadog, CloudWatch) and setting up monitoring you'd be willing to be woken up by
- Familiarity with Databricks or BigQuery at scale
- Experience of platform migration work, and the volume of remediation it tends to generate
- Having worked somewhere the same problem was solved twice in two regions, and having done something about it
