Overview

We are currently seeking a highly experienced KDB Developer to join a leading financial services organisation on an initial 12-week contract. This role will focus on the development, enhancement and support of high-performance market data and trading platforms, working within a fast-paced environment supporting business-critical trading and analytics systems.

The successful candidate will have extensive expertise in kdb+/q, low-latency systems, real-time streaming data architectures and large-scale time-series data platforms. You will work closely with technology and business stakeholders to design and deliver scalable solutions that support trading, market data and analytics functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain large-scale kdb+/q applications and infrastructure.
  • Build and optimise high-performance time-series databases and analytics platforms.
  • Develop and support low-latency market data processing solutions.
  • Capture, process and analyse high-volume tick data and trading datasets.
  • Design and implement scalable real-time streaming and event-driven architectures.
  • Collaborate with traders, quantitative teams, business analysts and technology stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Support the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing and deployment.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement performance improvements.
  • Optimise system performance, scalability and reliability across trading and data platforms.
  • Work closely with global technology teams to ensure alignment of solutions and best practices.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions and strategic technology initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 15+ years' experience working with kdb+/q.
  • Proven track record designing and developing large-scale kdb+ platforms and infrastructure.
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals and software engineering principles.
  • Excellent understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Hands-on development experience within Unix and/or Linux environments.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems and real-time data processing.
  • Experience designing and supporting high-performance, high-throughput systems.
  • Expertise in market data processing and time-series database technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
