Key Account Manager – Industrial Engines & Power Solutions

Location: Field Based (Southern England)
Salary: Competitive + Bonus (OTE £80,000) + Company Car + Benefits

Our client is one of the UK's most established engineering businesses, with decades of success supplying world-class industrial engine solutions into the construction, power generation, equipment manufacturing and rental sectors. Their reputation hasn't been built through aggressive sales tactics. It's been built through technical excellence, doing the right thing for customers and employing good people who genuinely care about delivering solutions that work.

As the business continues to grow, they're looking for an experienced Area Sales Manager to join their Industrial Division.

This is a genuinely rare opportunity to become part of a company where people stay, where you'll be trusted to make decisions, supported by highly knowledgeable engineering teams and given the freedom to manage your territory like your own business.

This isn't an order-taking sales role.

We're looking for someone who understands what great account management actually means. Someone who doesn't just visit customers because it's "time for a catch-up". Instead, you'll know how to:

  • Assess the health of your customer portfolio.
  • Understand where the risks are before they become problems.
  • Spot commercial opportunities others miss.
  • Prioritise your time where it will deliver the greatest return.
  • Retain and grow key accounts through insight, trust and added value.
  • Become the person your customers call before they make important decisions.

If you enjoy understanding your customers' businesses as well as your own, you'll fit in brilliantly with this employer.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Role

You'll be responsible for managing and developing customers across your territory, helping them specify and source the right industrial engine solutions for their applications.

Working closely with internal engineering, service and technical teams, you'll build tailored solutions rather than simply selling products from a catalogue.

You'll also keep a close eye on market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities, helping shape future sales strategy while representing the business at industry exhibitions and events.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Growing sales and profitability across your territory.
  • Building long-term relationships with OEMs, and industrial customers.
  • Managing strategic customer accounts through proactive account planning.
  • Identifying commercial risk and opportunities within your customer base.
  • Developing engine specifications alongside customers and engineering teams.
  • Producing technical quotations and commercial proposals.
  • Supporting and expanding the dealer network.
  • Planning your territory to maximise both customer service and commercial performance.
  • Attending exhibitions and industry events as an ambassador for the business.

About You

You'll already be selling diesel engines or closely related industrial equipment. You'll understand the technical conversations that customers expect to have, but you'll also appreciate that the strongest commercial relationships are built through trust, reliability and delivering genuine value.

We're looking for someone who brings:

  • Around five years' experience within the diesel engine industry or a similar industrial sector.
  • Experience selling into construction, generator, rental, off-highway or industrial equipment markets.
  • Strong commercial awareness alongside excellent technical understanding.
  • A proven track record of managing and growing customer accounts.
  • Confidence preparing quotations and working on technically led sales opportunities.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • A proactive, organised and self-motivated approach.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Experience within engine distribution, application engineering or a mechanical engineering background would certainly be welcomed, but just as important is your ability to build trusted customer relationships and identify opportunities for growth.

Why You'll Want This Role

There aren't many businesses like this. They've built an enviable reputation over many years by investing in their people, partnering with market-leading manufacturers and developing lasting customer relationships. You'll be joining a collaborative, down to earth team where expertise is respected, ideas are listened to and success is shared.

You'll have the backing of experienced technical specialists, the autonomy to run your territory properly and the opportunity to make a genuine commercial impact. If you're looking for a business where you can build a long-term career rather than simply move to another sales job, this could be exactly what you've been waiting for.
