Bernard Matthews is a long-established producer of chicken and turkey products and a key supplier across the UK retail and foodservice sectors. The company manufactures frozen and cooked/chilled meat products for major retailers, with its foods enjoyed in nearly half of UK homes. The Sunderland site employs over 450 people and focuses on delivering high-quality products while supporting and developing its workforce. Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Key Operative/Production Operative role based at the Bernard Matthews Sunderland site. The role involves working as part of a production team to operate machinery, handle raw and cooked products, and follow scheduled production plans to meet daily output targets. The role may also involve helping new colleagues with task guidance and participating in training to improve skills and support continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Ability to work with production planning and scheduling processes, supporting efficient workflow and meeting targets.
- Strong communication skills for working effectively with team members, line leaders, and other departments.
- Experience or aptitude in quality control, including checking products against standards and following food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Understanding of production management principles, such as line efficiency, waste reduction, and basic machinery operation.
- Willingness and ability to participate in training, learn new procedures, and support the development of colleagues.
- Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, or a similar production environment is beneficial but not essential.
- Flexibility to work different shifts if required and capability to perform manual handling tasks safely.
