The Key Warehouse Operative

The Key Warehouse Operative will play a pivotal role in our high-volume grocery distribution centre, ensuring that perishable and non-perishable products are received, stored, and dispatched with maximum speed and accuracy. Working day shifts, you will support a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement, helping us keep shelves stocked for millions of customers across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and inspect inbound deliveries, confirming quantities and product integrity.
  • Store items in designated locations following FIFO and temperature-control guidelines.
  • Pick and pack orders for outbound distribution, meeting daily efficiency targets.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and conveyor systems safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using the WMS (Warehouse Management System).
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and assist with stock reconciliations.
  • Identify and report any product damage, spoilage, or safety hazards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to boost throughput and reduce waste.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and food-handling regulations.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to achieve department KPIs.

  • GCSEs or equivalent, preferably in Maths or English.
  • Previous experience in a food-handling or grocery warehouse environment.
  • Valid forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Strong numeracy and attention to detail for accurate picking and stock control.
  • Ability to work day shifts consistently, including occasional overtime.
  • Good physical stamina – able to lift 25 kg regularly and stand for long periods.
  • Basic computer literacy and experience with warehouse management systems.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality with a focus on meeting efficiency targets.
