About the Role

Would you like to work for the charity that cares for hundreds of historic sites in every corner of England? We are looking for a Keykeeper to join us at Fort Brockhurst, Medieval Merchant's House and Royal Garrison Church working 25 hours per week but this may vary.

Heritage is for everybody, and we are here for heritage.

Heritage lives in places and people, memories and stories, artefacts and traditions. It can connect us all to the past, and to each other. It can make us happier, strengthen every community, and help shape society for the better. Everybody should be able to enjoy the benefits it brings. That's why, as a charity, we care for over a million objects and hundreds of historic sites in every part of England, from international icons to local treasures. And it's why we open them up, share their stories and find new ways for everybody to enjoy, learn, play and create.

Responsibilities

Based at Fort Brockhurst and working across the Medieval Merchant's House, Southampton and the Royal Garrison Church, Portsmouth, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operation of our historic sites.

Working as part of the Volunteer and Engagement Team, supporting the Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager, our dedicated teams of volunteers, no two days will be the same.

As our Keykeeper across the 3 sites you will be responsible for:

  • Providing safe access to the site at agreed times for contractors and English Heritage staff, remaining on site to monitor work and activity where necessary.
  • Supporting the opening the sites to facilitate public access for agreed opening hours, including prebooked activities and tours, school visits or community events.
  • Ensuring our properties remain safe, well-presented and ready to deliver exceptional visitor experiences.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
