Kitchen Assistant
Location: Uxbridge, SEN School
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 2:00pm
Contract: Temporary
Salary/Rate: £16-£19 per hour dependent on experience
Start Date: ASAP
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Kitchen Assistant to join our busy catering team within a welcoming all-through SEN school. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is a fast learner, enjoys working in a hands-on environment, and is keen to develop their skills in school catering.
Working as part of a small team of just two people, you will play a vital role in ensuring pupils receive nutritious, high-quality meals each day. This is a fast-paced role that requires energy, organisation, and the ability to remain calm under pressure during busy lunch periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with food preparation and basic cooking duties.
- Serving meals to pupils in a friendly and professional manner.
- Delivering lunches to classrooms across the school.
- Following the school's agreed menus and meal plans.
- Ensuring all food preparation and service complies with health and safety regulations.
- Adhering to food hygiene standards and allergy awareness procedures at all times.
- Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the school kitchen.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment.

About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Enthusiastic, reliable, and hardworking.
- Has a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Can work effectively as part of a small team.
- Comfortable being on their feet for the majority of the day.
- Remains calm and focused in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Has excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Understands the importance of food safety, health and safety, and allergy management.
- Has previous catering or kitchen experience (desirable but not essential).
Requirements
- An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position, or the willingness to obtain one prior to commencing employment.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
