About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our contract catering team in London. The successful candidate will support the kitchen operation by assisting with food preparation, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, and helping deliver an excellent dining experience for customers.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy catering environment, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and works well as part of a team.

Main Responsibilities

Food Preparation

  • Assist chefs with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
  • Prepare salads, sandwiches, desserts, and other menu items as directed.
  • Ensure food is prepared and stored in accordance with company standards and food safety regulations.
  • Help with the service and presentation of food during meal periods.

Kitchen Operations

  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of all kitchen, storage, and service areas.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and catering equipment.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any faults or maintenance issues.
  • Assist with stock rotation and storage, ensuring adherence to FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all Food Safety, Health & Safety, and HACCP procedures.
  • Maintain excellent personal hygiene standards at all times.
  • Support compliance with allergen management procedures and company policies.
  • Participate in cleaning schedules and complete required records accurately.

Customer Service

  • Provide friendly and professional service to customers when required.
  • Assist with serving food and beverages during service periods.
  • Respond positively and politely to customer requests and enquiries.

General Duties

  • Assist with deliveries and stock replenishment.
  • Support catering functions, hospitality events, and special occasions as required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by the Catering Manager or Head Chef.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Previous experience working in a kitchen, catering, hospitality, or food service environment.
  • Understanding of food hygiene and health & safety requirements.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to work.

  • Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate.
  • Experience within contract catering, corporate catering, education, healthcare, or hospitality sectors.
  • Knowledge of allergen management procedures.
