Kitchen Supervisor

Reports to: Shift Manager

Direct Reports: Kitchen Operatives

Location: Rainham, Essex (RM13 8RH)

Hours: Shift-based, including weekends and overtime as operationally required

Right to work in the UK required — we're unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role

The Role

Frive is looking for an experienced Kitchen Supervisor to support the day-to-day running of our food manufacturing kitchen.

You will lead a team of kitchen operatives and ensure that products are prepared and cooked safely, efficiently, on schedule and to the required specification. You will coordinate the activities of your team, monitor performance, review and approve worked hours, and maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, safety and compliance throughout the shift.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment and responding quickly to changing production priorities.

Responsibilities

Production Planning & Coordination

  • Organise and supervise the daily activities of the kitchen team, ensuring adherence to the production plan and coordinating the workload across the different kitchen sections.
  • Ensure the correct quantities of all required products are produced on schedule and in accordance with approved recipes, specifications and quality standards.
  • Allocate work clearly and ensure team members understand the production plan, priorities and expectations for the shift.
  • Monitor progress against the production plan and take appropriate action when delays, shortages or operational issues arise.
  • Ensure all production information, recipes, quality assurance standards and product specifications are available and followed correctly.
  • Maximise productivity while maintaining food safety, quality and employee welfare standards.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to production, quality, staffing and equipment issues.

Food Safety, Quality & Hygiene

  • Monitor product quality throughout the shift and escalate or resolve any non-conformances.
  • Promote clean-as-you-go practices and ensure cleaning tasks are completed thoroughly and at the required frequency.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, HACCP, COSHH, allergen management and health and safety requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are followed to prevent allergen cross-contamination and other food safety risks.
  • Confirm that kitchen equipment is used safely, kept clean and reported when damaged or not operating correctly.
  • Ensure all required production records, checks, traceability documentation and due-diligence paperwork are completed accurately and on time.

Shift Leadership & Communication

  • Conduct shift briefings and communicate production priorities, safety information and operational updates to the team.
  • Complete clear and accurate shift handovers, including outstanding production, staffing, quality and equipment issues.
  • Follow and consistently enforce Frive's policies, procedures and working standards.
  • Provide appropriate operational cover and support in the absence of the immediate line manager.

People Management & Administration

  • Supervise, support, train and develop kitchen employees.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance and conduct, addressing issues in accordance with company procedures.
  • Review and approve employees' worked hours and timesheets, ensuring records are complete and accurate within the required deadlines.
  • Support the preparation and management of team rotas to maintain appropriate staffing levels.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with other supervisors and departments, including Production, Provision, Hygiene, Warehouse, Quality Assurance and Engineering.
  • Support continuous improvement activities relating to safety, quality, productivity, waste and operational efficiency.

  • Accuracy of timesheets, production records and administration

About You

  • Previous supervisory or team-leader experience within a food manufacturing, production kitchen or similarly fast-paced environment.
  • A good understanding of food safety, HACCP, allergen controls and workplace health and safety.
  • Experience coordinating employees and allocating work across different operational sections in accordance with a production plan.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
  • The ability to communicate instructions clearly to a diverse workforce.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several priorities at the same time.
  • A practical and calm approach to solving operational problems.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in relation to food quality, safety, employee hours and production records.
  • Confidence using production, rostering and timesheet systems, as well as standard Microsoft Office programs.
  • The flexibility to work different shifts, weekends or overtime when operationally required.
  • Must have Food Safety or HACCP qualification.

What You Can Expect

You will work in a busy food manufacturing environment alongside Kitchen, Production, Quality Assurance, Hygiene, Provision, Warehouse and Engineering teams.

The position involves spending extended periods in an operational kitchen environment and may include working around hot equipment, chilled areas and food allergens. Appropriate personal protective equipment and training will be provided.
