Job Title: Preparation Technician

Location: Ipswich

Salary: GBP from £30,000 - £32,000 Per Annum

Type: Permanent, Full-time

We’re looking for an experienced Preparation Technician to join an established automotive dealership. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Technician seeking a Monday–Friday role, offering a competitive basic salary, bonus potential, and a genuine work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

As a Preparation Technician, your primary responsibility will be to prepare vehicles to a high standard for sale or delivery. This includes conducting routine maintenance, servicing, inspections, and mechanical repairs on a variety of vehicles. You will be expected to:

  • Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections to identify any mechanical issues or necessary repairs, ensuring all work meets the dealership's high standards.
  • Carry out routine servicing tasks, including oil changes, brake checks, and tyre rotations, using diagnostic tools and equipment to assess vehicle performance.
  • Collaborate closely with the wider workshop team to ensure that all vehicles are completed efficiently and safely, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work carried out, including parts used and time spent on each task, to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Uphold excellent standards of workmanship, demonstrating a keen attention to detail in every aspect of your work.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior technicians, sharing your knowledge and expertise to foster a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Previous experience as a Vehicle Technician or Prep Technician, ideally within a dealership environment.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and a solid understanding of automotive systems and components.
  • Proven ability to carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong sense of pride in your workmanship, ensuring that all tasks are completed to the best of your ability.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy workshop environment, managing time and priorities to meet deadlines.
  • A professional and reliable approach to work, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
  • Relevant automotive qualifications, such as NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, are desirable and will be considered an advantage.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with diagnostic equipment and software, such as OBD-II scanners, to troubleshoot and resolve vehicle issues.
  • Familiarity with electric and hybrid vehicle systems, as the automotive industry increasingly shifts towards alternative fuel technologies.
  • Additional certifications, such as those from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) or similar, would be beneficial.
