Applications are invited for this Consultant post. The post is based at Royal Cornhill Hospital Aberdeen and applications will be welcomed from people wishing to work full-time or part-time and from established Consultants who are considering a new work commitment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a psychiatric consultation and liaison service for patients aged over 65 years admitted to medical wards in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Woodend Hospital, as detailed within the job outline.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The post holder will be expected to register with the Continuing Professional Development Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists for which all costs will be met by NHS Grampian. There are opportunities for research and close links exist between the Service and the Departments of Mental Health and Psychology of the University of Aberdeen. The post holder will be expected to contribute to audit and other elements of clinical governance. A detailed job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate at the time of appointment to meet service needs, taking account of the experience, skills and interests of the candidate and how they can best be used within the consultant team. The post holder will be expected to engage in annual appraisal towards revalidation.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.
