ROBERT TODD & SON LIMITED is a textiles company that represents leading European and Chinese yarn mills and manages global production for brands of varying sizes. The company supports both large and small quantity orders, giving team members exposure to diverse project scales and client needs. The main office and showroom are located near Loughborough, providing a collaborative environment for design, product development, and client meetings. Team members work closely with international partners and customers in a dynamic, growth-oriented setting.

Role Description

The Mid-level Knitwear Designer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Loughborough.

The designer will create textile and yarn-related designs, develop collections aligned with brand requirements, and translate client briefs into commercially viable products. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Preparing design concepts, technical specifications, and presentation materials
  • Collaborating with sales and production teams
  • Ensuring designs are suitable for global sourcing and manufacturing processes
  • Conducting trend and market research
  • Developing color and material concepts
  • Updating the showroom with new samples and design boards
  • Liaising with mills and suppliers to review samples, adjust designs for production feasibility, and support timely delivery of client projects

Due to our office location, car/driving is essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in knitwear design with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
  • Ladies product focus and a keen eye for color.
  • Proficiency with relevant design software: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign. Use of AI is required. Experience in using ApexFiz is beneficial.
  • Experience interpreting client briefs, developing mood boards, and creating commercially focused collections.
  • Understanding of textile production processes, materials, color matching, and design adaptation for manufacturing.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with sales, production, and suppliers.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Previous experience in a textile or fashion design environment at an intermediate level is highly beneficial.
  • Relevant qualification in Textile Design, Fashion Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
