Knowledge Paralegal (AI)
12-month Fixed Term Contract
We are a leading European intellectual property firm, advising some of the world’s most innovative and successful companies. Together, we help to improve lives by supporting innovation.
We hire talented and passionate people who think creatively and enjoy a challenge. Working collaboratively, we share our knowledge and experience across teams, actively learning from each other in a friendly and sociable environment.
We are passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. Diversity of thought is vital to our business; it’s how we approach challenges differently and offer our clients creative and original solutions. Through our work with organisations such as IP Inclusive, Stonewall and Business in the Community via the Race at Work Charter, we are putting the right steps in place to make sure that all our people feel supported and empowered to be themselves. Further information on our commitment to diversity and inclusion is available on our website.
A healthy work/life balance is very important to us, and we run regular wellbeing events in addition to the large number of clubs and social activities that are available to everyone at the firm. We are also enthusiastic supporters of our local community through partnerships with the Social Mobility Foundation and Holborn Community Association.
The Role
This role sits within the Knowledge Team and supports the firm’s AI initiatives by translating identified AI use cases into clear, practical, fee-earner led processes that surface, structure and stress test fee-earner expertise using AI tools.
As a paralegal you will work with the Knowledge Director, the wider Knowledge Team, and directly with fee-earners to create guidance that sets out how to use AI well in practice: what inputs to prepare, what prompts to use, how to constrain and interrogate outputs, and include appropriate guardrails. Professional judgement must be applied.
In order to develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders, and to ensure success in the role, we envisage regular presence in our London office.
Principal Responsibilities
What You’ll Be Doing
AI use case support and workflow design
- Support the Knowledge Team in developing, documenting and maintaining AI-enabled workflows for agreed use cases (including research, drafting support, comparative analysis and internal know-how synthesis), including:
- pre-filtering and preparation of inputs.
- structured prompting (role, context and constraints).
- use of tables, comparison frameworks or checklists to assess outputs.
- clearly defined points where human expertise, judgement or decisions are required.
- Assist with ensuring workflows are documented in a way that is usable in practice, repeatable and easy to follow under time pressure.
Prompt and guidance development
- Assist with the drafting and maintenance of clear guidance for fee-earners on:
- prompts appropriate to specific legal tasks.
- how and when prompts should be adapted as understanding develops.
- common failure modes and how to identify them.
- need to treat AI outputs as inputs to legal thinking, not substitutes for legal reasoning.
- Assist with the curation and updating of prompt libraries and worked examples in line with firm guidance on AI-assisted legal work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- comparison against authoritative sources (e.g. legislation, case law, internal precedents).
- clear ownership of validation and sign off by fee earners.
- Work with the Knowledge Team and fee-earners to ensure AI outputs are consistently treated as starting points for analysis, not answers.
Fee-earner engagement and enablement
- Act as a point of contact for fee-earners using AI tools, supporting them in refining workflows and guidance based on real-world usage.
- Capture feedback on where AI meaningfully supports expertise and improves efficiency.
- Support the Knowledge Team in fostering a culture where fee-earners are encouraged to question, interpret and adapt AI outputs.
Knowledge governance and continuous improvement

- Ability to translate complex processes into clear, step-by-step guidance.
- High attention to detail and strong judgement when assessing the reliability of outputs.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
- Able to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- A team player who is confident interacting with fee-earners and others of all levels across the firm.
