In a farewell-tinged statement, Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly suggested that his World Cup 2026 appearance might be his last wearing the Lions of Teranga, signaling a generational shift for the team.
The 34-year-old defender, who currently plies his trade with Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal, told MediaCar Senegal: 'I think this will be my last World Cup; I won't play in the tournament when I am thirty-nine.'

The remarks come weeks after Sadio Mane indicated that the 2026 World Cup will probably be his last as well, suggesting Senegal could lose two of its best symbols in the coming years.
Koulibaly has been a cornerstone of Senegal's defense for more than a decade, helping the team to two Africa Cup of Nations titles and is regarded as one of the greatest defenders in Senegalese football history.
