Job Description

Job Title: KS2 Teacher (Part-time)

Reporting to: Deputy Head

Contract: Part-time

Start Date: 2 November 2026

Salary: Dependent on experience

Location: Prospect House Upper School, 75 Prospect Hill, Putney, SW15

Purpose of the Role

To plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, inspiring, and rigorous lessons primarily in Year 5 and Year 6 English, alongside designated Science and History classes, ensuring rapid progress and academic excellence for all pupils

To prepare pupils thoroughly for 11+ examinations and secondary school transition, fostering high standards of literacy, critical thinking, and independent learning habits.

To lead, monitor, and develop a designated subject or curricular area across the school in consultation with the Headmistress and Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

To promote high standards of behaviour, pastoral care, safeguarding, and inclusion, maintaining a safe and supporting environment where every child can thrive.

To contribute actively to the wider life, culture and ethos of Prospect House School, collaborating effectively with colleagues within the school and across the broader Dukes Education group.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • To prepare and teach engaging, inspirational and effective lessons that stimulate and enthuse children of all abilities to reach their full potential
  • To base lessons on objectives set by Prospect House School and by the schemes of work in place
  • To be prepared to teach all subjects across the curriculum and/or a specialist subject, if required
  • To incorporate effectively the use of ICT, where appropriate, including updating the school’s online platform
  • To complete half term and weekly planning documents, in accordance with school policy, for lessons that meet the full educational needs of all pupils
  • To co-ordinate and take responsibility for leading a subject area within the school, in consultation with the headmistress
  • To co-operate with colleagues and the SLT and contribute professionally as a member of the team
  • To liaise closely with members of the SLT and Head of English in preparing pupils for 11+ examination and entry to secondary school
  • To mark, assess, report and record pupils’ work consistently, in accordance with school policy, to ensure progress and development for all children
  • To maintain good order and discipline amongst pupils, safeguarding their health and safety at work and play
  • To liaise with counterparts and other relevant staff at the other schools in Dukes to share best practice and effectively leverage group expertise and ideas
  • To liaise with the LSU on a weekly basis where necessary and to follow recommendations for LSU pupils

Leadership of Curriculum/Area

  • Take responsibility for one designated area of the curriculum or school life (to be agreed) across the school, including planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of that area.
  • Lead and drive improvements in that area, including supporting colleagues, implementing initiatives and reporting on outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Ensure alignment of the designated area with the school’s overall improvement plan and priorities.

Pastoral & School Life Responsibilities

  • Undertake the responsibilities of a teacher: maintain accurate records, report to parents and carers, attend parents’ evenings, contribute to school events and open mornings.
  • Establish positive relationships with parents, carers and external agencies, ensuring clear communication about children’s learning, progress and welfare.
  • Uphold the school’s ethos, behaviour policy, safeguarding procedures and contribute to the wider life and culture of the school.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and performance management/appraisal as required.
  • Contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of professional conduct, punctuality and presentation.
  • To be familiar with the school’s handbook and general policies for staff.
  • To participate in the staff duty rota, as directed by the SLT.
  • To take part in INSET and additional training as directed

Safeguarding

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children both inside and outside the classroom, following the school’s Safeguarding & Child Protection policy and relevant statutory guidance.
  • Ensure that any safeguarding concerns are promptly reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and appropriately recorded.

Other duties

  • Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by the Headmistress, within the scope of the post.
  • Be flexible and adaptable, supporting the school through change and development.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
  • Proven, successful classroom teaching experience in Key Stage 2.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading or coordinating teaching and learning across a key stage or phase.
  • Strong knowledge of the KS2 curriculum, statutory assessment requirements and effective pedagogy for KS2.
  • Experience of using data/assessment/benchmarking to raise standards and track pupil progress.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children, parents/carers, staff and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills: ability to manage phase resources, timetable demands, staff deployment, and logistics of extra-curricular club
  • Ability to contribute to strategic planning, drive improvement, evaluate impact and lead initiatives.
  • A creative, reflective practitioner committed to high standards, continuous improvement, and inclusive education.
  • Commitment to safeguarding children, awareness of current legislation and best practice.

Desirable

  • Experience of leading a curriculum subject or area whole‐school.
  • Experience of running or developing an extra-curricular club.
  • Familiarity with working in an independent school context.
  • Additional qualifications or training, leadership or professional development
  • Experience of supporting children with special educational needs and/or English as an additional language
  • Knowledge of how to use ICT across settings to enhance learning and support assessment.
