Job Description: IRATA L1 Blaster/Painter
Contract Details
We are currently seeking experienced IRATA L1 Blaster/Painters for a fixed-term contract running from 26th August 2026 until 18th November 2026.
Location: Grangemouth and other Client Sites (as required)

Successful candidates will be responsible for surface preparation and the application of protective coatings to steelwork, vessels, pipework, and tank internals across various client locations.
Overall Purpose of the Role
As a Blaster/Painter, you will be appointed as a competent person responsible for surface preparation and coating application activities. You will work in accordance with client site procedures and Applus UK Ltd's Safe Working Operating Procedures, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy working environment by adhering to company and client safety standards, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Working under the direction of FM QA/QC Leads, FM Supervisors, RA Project Managers, and Service Coordinators.
- Carrying out abrasive blasting and surface preparation activities.
- Applying protective coatings using conventional, airless, and plural component spray systems.
- Applying coatings by brush and roller where required.
- Operating blasting and painting equipment, including blast pots and spray guns.
- Ensuring coatings are applied to the required specification and film thickness.
- Mixing paints and coatings in accordance with manufacturer specifications and required ratios.
- Reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Safely operating hand tools and associated equipment.
- Grinding, sanding, polishing, caulking, sealing, and coating repair activities.
- Working with epoxy, polyurethane, and high-solids coating systems.
- Measuring and recording coating thickness using gauges and wet film combs.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must hold all of the following:
- CCNSG Safety Passport or IOSH Working Safely
- IRATA Level 1 Rope Access Certification
- Blasting & Painting Qualification (OPITO or TTP)
In addition, candidates should demonstrate:
- Proven experience in industrial blasting and painting activities.
- Knowledge of painting and coating specifications.
- Understanding of blasting standards and surface preparation requirements.
- Experience with coating repair systems and various coating application techniques.
- Comprehensive knowledge of blasting, spraying, and surface preparation equipment.
- High level of site-based operational experience.
- Good problem-solving skills and basic computer literacy.
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Flexibility and adaptability in changing work environments.
- Physical fitness suitable for the demands of the role.

- Confined Space Certification.
- Offshore Certification.
- Additional Rope Access qualifications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience operating and maintaining industrial equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work alongside a diverse workforce across multiple disciplines.
