HVAC/Commissioning & Water Treatment Engineer Apprenticeship
We are looking for an engineer to be trained on the HVAC/commissioning side and/or the water treatment/hygiene side of the business. These roles might cross/depending on where the right skill set can be applied to the best level. Full support for training is offered. CSCS skill card will be required - we will assist with applying.
Responsibilities
- To offer support to Commissioning & Water Treatment Engineers. Working closely with your supervisor and the engineering team, following the correct procedures to BSRIA guidelines and, when needed, CIBSE Codes A & W
- To compile correct computer-generated test sheets and engineers’ reports using our master templates, initially with some training and guidance as required
- Always wear company clothing and appropriate PPE
- Help with producing Risk Assessments and Method Statements required for individual projects
- Proficient with use of Office Suite programs (Word, Excel spreadsheets). Computer-literate
- Some understanding of building, engineering, M & E industry desired
- Carry out all reasonable tasks or projects as requested
- To follow instructions as given by project managers/lead engineers
- To abide by company rules, Health and Safety and Quality policies
- Ensure the employee handbook has been read and understood fully
- Always behave respectfully towards customers, work colleagues and office staff
- Always promote a professional company image
- Never make a promise we cannot keep
Key Tasks
- Performing air and water balancing and HVAC systems validations to CIBSE Codes and BSRIA Guidelines, always with a positive outlook and can-do attitude, proactive troubleshooting
- To assist the commissioning and water treatment teams when required
- To follow the correct procedures for setting up and flushing closed low and chilled water systems to BSRIA guidelines
- Understanding L8 water compliance
- Be willing to participate in any company training days/programmes provided to improve development
- Be prepared to travel and stay away as necessary to complete your work and always look for opportunities to improve standards
- Follow company processes relating to all aspects of your work, showing respect to all staff and colleagues
- Report any issues to your project manager/lead engineer
- To generate test sheets and reports in a timely manner

- Identify and deal appropriately with any risks, hazards, hazardous situations and problems that may occur within the engineering environment within the limits of their responsibility

- Carryout fault location on appropriate equipment using suitable maintenance diagnostic techniques
- Carryout maintenance activities in line with work instructions
- Carryout tests on the maintained equipment in accordance with test schedule/defined test procedures
- Follow appropriate completion activities and restore equipment to service by replacing or repairing components
- Plan the mechanical manufacturing operation before they start
- Mount and set the required workholding devices
- Produce individual components, sub-assemblies or completed assemblies using mechanical manufacturing techniques
- Carryout quality checks during and after mechanical manufacturing operations
- Wire and terminate different types of cabling e.g. single core, multi core, screened, fire resistant, armoured, etc.
- Assemble and test a range of electrical components e.g. component panels, isolator switches, fuses, circuit breakers, contactors, relays, rail mounted terminal blocks, etc.
- Assemble and test a range of electronic components e.g. resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, etc.
- Follow appropriate completion activities and restore equipment/system to service after the assembly and testing has been completed
- Shape the materials using the appropriate methods and techniques
- Join the materials using the appropriate methods and techniques
- Produce components which meet the specification requirements
- Carryout quality checks during and after the fabrication activities
- Plan the materials, processing or finishing operation before they start
- Prepare equipment, tooling, materials, etc. and complete set up activities before carrying out the materials, processing or finishing operation

Training schedule
Engineering Operative Level 2
- Day release - One day per week based in college
Essential qualifications
- GCSE in:
- Maths and English (grade Grade 9-2 or equivalent)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
The position requires daily travel to our clients’ sites. You will be paired with a senior engineer and likely to travel with them in a company vehicle, occasional travel by public transport may be required. Therefore, the role is suited to someone who is not only technically minded but also enjoys variety and flexibility and holds a full driving licence (or is learning to drive).
