The apprenticeship
The apprenticeship will have a blended approach to delivery which could include webinars, face-to-face, telephone and online learning to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the standard.
Complete Signalling and Maintenance Courses, and work towards IRSE Rail Technician with MoD & SMTH Qualifications.
Wage: £14,560 to £23,132.20, depending on your age
Training course: Rail engineering technician (level 3)
Hours: Monday - Friday with some weekends. Shifts vary from 8, 10, 12 hours. 35 hours a week
Start date: Sunday 13 September 2026
Duration: 3 years

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Our new Apprentice will start in September 2026 and will complete a 36 month programme to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 3 Rail Engineering (Competence)
- Level 3 Rail Engineering (Technical Knowledge)
- Level 2 Maths and English if you do not already hold them

Essential qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English (grade 4/C)
- Maths (grade 4/C)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
