L5 Software Development Engineer – Edge Platform, Global Streaming Giant

London - 5 days on-site - 12-Month Contract

Want to build the platform that lets AI agents safely operate inside one of the world's largest streaming services?

We're hiring an L5 Software Development Engineer for the Edge Control team within a major global entertainment and technology platform's video division. This team owns the infrastructure that keeps client interactions with the platform's global network reliable, fast, and cost-efficient — and is now extending that into a remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) platform that lets engineering teams across the business rapidly and safely deploy AI tooling at scale.

This isn't a maintenance role. You'll be designing and shipping features on genuinely novel infrastructure, with real autonomy over how you get there.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be doing

  • Design, build and extend the remote MCP platform used to accelerate AI adoption across Prime Video engineering teams
  • Own medium-complexity features end-to-end, with minimal hand-holding
  • Drive operational excellence — dashboards, runbooks, alarm tuning, incident response
  • Take part in on-call rotations for mission-critical, high-throughput services
  • Use AI coding tools responsibly to increase your own output without compromising quality or reliability

What you'll bring

  • Strong professional software development background, with hands-on proficiency in Java, Kotlin and TypeScript
  • Proven experience designing distributed systems or backend services
  • Solid AWS experience (EC2, NLB, ElastiCache, Lambda, DynamoDB) and infrastructure-as-code with AWS CDK
  • A genuine grasp of networking fundamentals — DNS, HTTP/TLS, load balancing
  • Experience running production systems: monitoring, alarming, incident response
  • Comfortable on Linux/UNIX, including shell scripting

What sets you apart

  • Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems at real scale
  • Advanced coding chops — concurrency, profiling, performance tuning
  • CI/CD pipeline and deployment automation experience
  • Exposure to network-edge security (DDoS protection, auth protocols, TLS termination)
  • You don't just write code that passes tests — you think through the edge cases, weigh the alternatives, and can defend your design choices under scrutiny

This role sits at L5: you'll be expected to operate independently in ambiguity, ask the right questions to unblock yourself, and communicate trade-offs clearly — not just execute a spec.
