Location:

Hybrid UK, at least 3 days per week on site in Kidlington, with occasional travel to Exeter

Schedule:

Lab system changes happen outside lab hours, usually on a Sunday or Monday, about once or twice a month.

Visas:

Unfortunately, we are not in a position to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

About the role

Our pathology lab runs on a lot of connected technology: a lab information system, scanners, automations, servers and integrations with our cloud diagnostic platform. Many teams work on these systems. We need one person to own them.

As our Lab Systems Engineer, you'll be that owner. You'll keep the lab's systems available, up to date and well connected, and you'll make sure every change reaches the lab safely, with testing, validation and a rollback plan in place. You'll work with IT, information security, integration, product, technical support and our software suppliers, and bring their work together into one approach.

This is a hands-on role for someone who likes ownership. It isn't a helpdesk role, and you won't need to be an expert in wet-lab processes.

What you'll do

  • Own the lab systems end to end: the lab information system, scanners, automations, servers, network and the integrations with our cloud platform.
  • Own the release cycle for lab systems: impact assessment, testing, validation, rollback planning and the go or no-go decision. Your first priority will be making upgrades to our core lab systems safe and predictable.
  • Lead service recovery when something goes wrong: restore the service, then find and fix the root cause.
  • Manage our lab software suppliers, agree priorities and support availability, and hold them to agreed dates.
  • Plan downtime and change windows with the lab so turnaround time is protected.
  • Put monitoring, disaster recovery and business continuity in place, and keep the documentation and evidence our accreditations need (UKAS ISO 15189, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, NHS DSPT).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
