Job Description Summary

The Assistant Lab Manager will be responsible to plan, manage and supervises the activities of a centralized laboratory and performs standard biological, microbiological and chemical tests in all areas of medical laboratory to assure their delivery in an accurate and timely fashion using proper safety precautions.

Job Description

  • Maintain sufficient inventory of supplies to prevent work delays
  • Manage department resources
  • Accurately process and analyze samples in a time efficient manner
  • Follow procedures outlined in the laboratory work instructions
  • Prepare media and solutions used in the laboratory
  • Enter samples and results into data management system or applicable data entry forms
  • Can perform all routine departmental tests as directed by lab management
  • Responsible for scheduling and prioritizing samples within their department
  • Report results to laboratory management
  • Act as a liaison between production facilities and laboratory management
  • Responsible for the quality of work performed as well as the quality of the product produced
  • Follow company policy and meet established procedures regarding bio-security, animal welfare, safety, ISO, drug, and alcohol policy
  • Take on special projects and perform all other duties as assigned by Lab Manager

  • Considerable knowledge of the basic principles and laboratory applications of biology, microbiology and chemistry
  • Some ability to apply knowledge of information sources in biology, microbiology, chemistry and scientific methodology
  • Some knowledge of current laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, materials and ability to perform standardized biological, chemical, and microbiological examinations independently
  • Make and record scientific observations accurately, prepare and present scientific records and reports and observe safety precautions and precautions
  • Knowledge of use of computers for laboratories
  • Knowledge of public health laboratory laws and regulations; sanitary bacteriology regulations
  • Ability to carry out and consult with other departmental staff and the public on this issue
  • Ability to deal with staff and the public in a positive and successful manner
