Research/Lab Technician | 12-Month Contract | Stevenage
We’re recruiting a Research Technician for a 12-month contract at a leading scientific R&D site in Stevenage. You’ll manage the chemical store and provide technical chemical support to scientists in the Chemistry and Biology departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the chemical inventory using a chemical data management system
- Help scientists source and purchase chemicals from approved suppliers, comparing prices and lead times
- Receive, check and register incoming chemicals
- Retrieve, dispense and deliver chemicals to laboratories across the site
- Restock reusable chemicals returned from labs accurately and on time
- Assist with the disposal of out-of-date chemicals and the management of chemical waste
- Carry out regular audits of chemical compounds in laboratories and keep records up to date
- Convert chemical names into structures and vice versa
- Report data and performance metrics accurately and on time
- Carry out daily safety inspections of chemical storage areas and report any hazards or unsafe acts
- Comply with all health, safety and environmental regulations
- Work closely with scientists and colleagues to provide excellent customer service
- Carry out some basic process chemistry activities and other reasonable duties, to approved standards (e.g. GMP/GLP)
About You
- BSc or MSc in Chemistry or a related subject (e.g. Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering)
- Good knowledge of chemistry, especially organic chemistry, including nomenclature, stereochemistry and the physical properties of compounds
- Laboratory experience is an advantage
- Experience working to SOPs, risk assessments and safety regulations
- Strong computer skills
- A customer-focused approach, with the ability to understand and meet people’s needs
- Able to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Self-motivated, able to work on your own initiative and to motivate others
