Role Overview

GSK are looking for a Laboratory Analyst to join the team in Barnard Castle. This person will perform analyses, support the operation of the laboratory function and help meet the business needs of GSK. The position involves working in a compliant and safety-conscious manner, completing analyses within agreed lead times, maintaining accurate laboratory records and contributing to continuous improvement activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with laboratory experience who enjoys working in a regulated environment and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analyses as required by the business.
  • Enter data onto company computer systems.
  • Check colleagues' work for accuracy.
  • Work in a compliant manner and ensure compliance with GxP and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Perform equipment performance checks/calibration.
  • Create, review and update laboratory documentation as required.
  • Participate in Level 1 audits.
  • Participate in safety inspections.
  • Participate in 5S activities.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Provide training and coaching to both new and established staff.
  • Share knowledge and experience to relevant areas.
  • Ensure analysis is carried out within lead times.
  • Prioritise daily workload to achieve lead times.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in day-to-day working.
  • Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained at all times.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement activities and discussions at team meetings.
  • Participate in continuous compliance activities, including LELs, SOPs, change controls and method updates.
  • Complete actions from 5S, Continuous Improvement and safety activities to agreed targets.

Skills & Qualifications

  • HNC or 2 years' experience working in a GxP laboratory.
  • Written communication skills, including reports, internal problem notifications, SOPs, LIRs, ERs, change controls, stability documents, method transfers and analytical methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in meetings relating to Continuous Improvement, troubleshooting, team meetings, self-inspections, 5S activities and safety.
  • Ability to participate in discussions relating to investigations.
  • Experience communicating through email.
  • Ability to deal with test result failures, atypical results, laboratory investigations, instrument failures, sample booking-in errors, SAP and LIMS system errors, material supplier issues, chemical spills, GMP/GLP deviations and delays to testing schedules.
  • Ability to discuss, agree and implement actions with other staff to rectify problems.
  • Ability to investigate and document occurrences using the appropriate system.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting where necessary.
  • Approximately 2 years to develop knowledge of a broad range of analytical techniques.
  • Experience using laboratory and business systems including LIMS, SAP, CDS, E Doc, databases, Word, Excel and Statistica.
  • Trained in various pieces of laboratory equipment relevant to the role.
  • Understanding of equipment calibration, maintenance and local procedures.
  • Understanding of the safe use and storage of materials.
  • Understanding of GxP and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Ability to work whilst handling highly flammable, toxic, explosive and hazardous materials.

Working Environment

This role is based within a laboratory environment and will require the use of PPE, including laboratory coats, safety glasses, and safety footwear. The position may involve the handling of hazardous, flammable, toxic, or explosive materials in accordance with established safety procedures.
