Exciting Opportunity: Laboratory Technician in Ecotoxicology
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in custom-built laboratories within the Ecotoxicology Department of Environmental Risk Sciences, Smithers Ltd. Based in Harrogate, we are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician, ideally with previous GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and/or laboratory experience.
About the Role
The role is varied in nature and includes:
- General housekeeping and cleaning
- Culturing and maintenance of organisms
- Routine maintenance of equipment and laboratory supplies
The successful candidate will work as part of a team and be mainly lab-based.
Working Hours
The role is 35 hours per week (with a full-time equivalent salary), from 9:00 till 12:30 on Saturday and 8:15 am to 4:30 pm Tuesday to Thursday.

Training
Training will be given in all aspects of the role, including:
- Set-up and maintenance of laboratory degradation studies
- Sample analysis
- Data processing
- General laboratory and housekeeping duties
Responsibilities of the role may vary depending on your qualifications and relevant experience.
Qualifications and Experience
Required minimum qualifications are relevant A Level, or equivalent in a related scientific subject.
Interested applicants should have excellent IT skills, be well-organized, enthusiastic, and demonstrate a hands-on approach to work with an ability to use their initiative and apply knowledge. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are essential.
