The Position

Laboratory Technician

Job Summary

  • Location: Newton Abbott, Devon (first 6 months), with flexibility to work in Plymouth
  • Salary: Up to £26,652.39 per annum
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 07:30 - 15:30
  • Contract: Full-time, Permanent

About Our Opportunity

We're looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our Ball Clay Quality Laboratory team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a laboratory environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work. You'll provide testing support across a range of routine approved test methods, ensuring samples are processed correctly and results are accurately entered and reported through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and SAP Opera.

Working closely with the Laboratory Supervisor and one other technician, you'll help maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance while developing your technical laboratory skills and experience.

What You'll Be Doing

Laboratory Testing & Reporting

  • Preparing and testing clay and mineral samples in accordance with approved laboratory procedures.
  • Carrying out routine quality control testing and analysis.
  • Accurately recording, analysing and reporting test results.
  • Maintaining laboratory records and databases.
  • Supporting the laboratory team in meeting testing requirements and deadlines.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Working in accordance with laboratory quality standards and procedures.
  • Following all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Identifying and reporting any anomalies that could impact testing or product quality.
  • Maintaining high housekeeping standards within the laboratory.
  • Ensuring equipment is operated safely and responsibly.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Working closely with operational and production teams.
  • Communicating laboratory findings effectively.
  • Supporting colleagues to meet laboratory and business objectives.
  • Contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Interest in science and laboratory processes.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own transport.
  • Willingness to work initially at Heathfield near Newton Abbott and Plymouth area.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous laboratory or quality control experience.
  • Experience within manufacturing, industrial or mineral processing environments.
  • Science-related qualifications.
  • Experience using laboratory databases or quality management systems.
