Purpose of the job
Laboratory Technician is responsible for advanced technical tasks, quality documentation, and supporting laboratory leadership. This role includes document control, instrument maintenance, training of staff, and generation of Certificates of Analysis (COA), while ensuring compliance with laboratory quality systems and regulatory standards.
What you will be doing
- Perform laboratory testing and analysis independently with a high level of technical competence
- Generate, review, and approve test reports and Certificates of Analysis (COA) in accordance with quality requirements
- Maintain and control laboratory documentation, including SOPs, forms, and records, ensuring compliance with document control procedures, supporting audits and continuous improvement activities.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance of laboratory instruments and coordinate repairs as required
- Ensure ongoing compliance with approved laboratory methods and quality systems
- Respond to operational needs beyond primary responsibilities
- Present data and information to stakeholders in meetings

Your key relationships will be
- Laboratory Manager / Laboratory Supervisor
- Technician works closely with the supervisor and manager to understand daily priorities, escalate issues, support audits and ensure laboratory work is completed in line with quality, safety and business requirements.
- Operations / Production teams
- Supports operations by providing accurate and timely laboratory results that help inform production decisions, product quality and release activities. This relationship requires clear communication, especially when priorities change or results may impact operational activity.
- External equipment suppliers / service engineers
- Liaises with suppliers and service engineers to support instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration and repairs. This helps ensure laboratory equipment remains reliable, compliant and available for routine testing.

- Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting - Essential
- Ability to train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff - Essential
- Experience generating and reviewing Certificates of Analysis (COA) - Essential
- Experience in supporting audits, inspections, and continuous improvement activities – Desirable
- Experience in stock taking and ordering – Desirable
- Experience with analytical techniques such as GC, KF titration, density, viscosity, flash point and other fuel testing methods - Desirable
- Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems and document control practices - Essential
- Excellent understanding of health, safety, and quality standards within a laboratory environment – Essential
Qualifications and experience required
- HNC/Degree in related field or 2-year experience in a commercial laboratory - Essential
- Experience in the biofuels, chemical, or petrochemical sectors (Desirable).
