Position Overview
Be part of myDNA’s expansion within the University of Glasgow’s Clinical Innovation Zone at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus. Supported by a 180-strong global team with over 20 years of expertise across the U.S.A. and Australia, this position puts you at the core of our Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) team as we scale advanced diagnostic services for major commercial partners like Bupa UK. In this hands-on technical role, you will execute complex NGS workflows—from library preparation and enrichment to sequencer loading—while operating cutting-edge automated liquid handlers and diagnostic instrumentation. You will actively drive pipeline excellence by troubleshooting assays, supporting new product validations, maintaining strict quality compliance, and ensuring our Glasgow facility operates at peak efficiency through proactive inventory and laboratory management. We are actively seeking two (2) candidates to join our team in this role.

Accountabilities And Responsibilities
NGS Workflows & Automation
- Carries out complex laboratory procedures, including NGS library preparations, amplification, enrichment, library dilutions, sample quantification and quality assessment, and sequencer loading.
- Operates and maintains advanced laboratory equipment (Beckman, Tecan, Echo, and Mantis liquid handlers; Agilent Tapestation; NGS sequencers).
- Assists with data review and QC assessment.
Quality Control, Compliance & Tracking
- Maintains rigorous records of laboratory work and sample tracking.
- Adheres strictly to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO 15189:2022 / UKAS standards, biosafety protocols, and UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018, thoroughly documenting records, deviations, and corrective actions.
Validation & Troubleshooting
- Assists with special validation and implementation projects for new NGS products.
- Proactively identifies and resolves issues with assays, instrumentation, or pipeline procedures.
Lab Operations & Inventory Management
- Monitors and maintains inventory levels and reagent stocks.
- Ensures workspace organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
Position Requirements
Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrated understanding of general molecular biology principles, with hands-on knowledge of NGS workflows, library preparation, automated liquid handlers, and sequencer operation.
- Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO 15189:2022 / UKAS standards, biosafety protocols, and UK GDPR / Data Protection guidelines.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel, fast/accurate data entry skills, and comfort navigating LIMS tracking databases and QMS software.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with cross-functional team members.
- Active position requiring stamina to stand and move between lab benches and instruments for the majority of the workday, adhering strictly to PPE and Health & Safety (OH&S) protocols.

Experience
- 3+ years of general laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR, NGS, microarrays, DNA extractions, capillary electrophoresis).
- Previous hands-on experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms and procedures in a clinical diagnostics or UKAS-accredited laboratory environment.
Education
- 4-year Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Biological Science or related field.
- HCPC registration or IBMS membership is preferred (or equivalent clinical laboratory experience).
Eligibility
- Must hold UK Permanent Residency or valid UK Right to Work.
