Laboratory Technician
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team in Prescot. You will support the delivery of accurate, reliable and timely laboratory results while maintaining high standards of quality, health and safety and ISO 17025 compliance.
About the Role:
- Number of Roles: 2
- Location: Prescot
- Hours Per Week: 37.5
- Shift/Hours: There will be a four-week initial training period working Monday to Friday (07:30 - 16:00). Following training, you will work Monday to Friday on rotating shifts of 06:00 - 14:00 and 13:30 - 21:30, with a shift allowance of £3,250.
- Contract: Full Time & Permanent
- Closing Date: Wednesday 16th September 2026
The Day to Day
- Carry out routine and non-routine laboratory testing, sample preparation and quality control checks.
- Operate, monitor and maintain laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation, reporting any faults or maintenance requirements.
- Accurately record results, maintain documentation and ensure full sample traceability.
- Review work for accuracy and compliance, troubleshoot routine issues and escalate complex concerns when required.
- Manage your workload to meet productivity, turnaround and customer service targets while supporting investigations into quality issues.
- Follow SOPs, ISO 17025 and health and safety requirements, maintaining a clean, safe and organised laboratory.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to the development of laboratory methods and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Essentials
- One to three years’ experience in a relevant analytical testing laboratory, or equivalent experience gained through a Level 3 science apprenticeship or structured laboratory training programme.
- Experience of high-quality chemical analysis, ideally within the minerals and metals sector.
- HNC/HND in Applied Chemistry or an equivalent science-related qualification.
- Good practical laboratory experience, dexterity, attention to detail and the ability to multitask and work to deadlines.
- Understanding of laboratory IT systems, with knowledge of LIMS desirable.
- Good awareness of laboratory quality standards, ISO 17025 and health and safety requirements.
- An investigative and scientific approach, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively.
- A respectful, collaborative and team-focused approach.
- A degree or equivalent science qualification, experience of mentoring or training colleagues, previous line management responsibility and experience of contributing to quality improvement would be desirable.
