Location: Wellingborough
Salary: £25,000 - £35,000 per annum (DOE)
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Laboratory Technician Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join a well-established manufacturing business specializing in polyurethane-based products. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a laboratory background who enjoys hands-on testing, product development, and working within a fast-paced R&D and quality environment.
As a Laboratory Technician, you will support the development, testing, and evaluation of polyurethane formulations while ensuring laboratory activities are carried out safely, accurately, and in line with quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, mix, and test polyurethane formulations and raw materials.
- Conduct routine laboratory testing and quality control activities.
- Accurately weigh and prepare chemical samples for testing.
- Record laboratory results, observations, and experimental data.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
- Safely handle chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and COSHH requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
- Monitor laboratory stock levels and assist with inventory management.
- Support product development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement projects.
- Report equipment issues, non-conformances, and abnormal test results.

What We're Looking For
Essential
- Qualification in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline (A-Level, HNC/HND, BTEC, Degree, or equivalent).
- Previous laboratory experience within a chemical or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and chemical handling procedures.
- Understanding of SDS, GLP, SOPs, and safe laboratory practices.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent record-keeping skills.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills.

Desirable
- Experience working with polyurethane, foams, coatings, adhesives, polymers, or resins.
- Knowledge of COSHH and hazardous waste management.
- Experience working within ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 environments.
- Experience with laboratory inventory management systems.
- Forklift or chemical handling certification (advantageous but not essential).
