Laboratory Technician

Based at: Glebe Farm Foods Ltd.
Salary: £28,000 to £32,000
Are you looking to build your career in food manufacturing and put your laboratory skills to work in a busy, hands-on environment?
We’re looking for a Laboratory Technician to join the Technical Team at Glebe Farm Foods. Based in our on-site laboratory, you’ll play an important role in ensuring our ingredients and finished products meet the high standards of quality and food safety that our customers expect.
This is a great opportunity for someone with laboratory experience who enjoys practical work, has a keen eye for detail and would like to develop their career within the food manufacturing industry.
What you’ll be doing
Working as part of our Technical Team, you’ll be responsible for carrying out a range of laboratory testing and supporting the day-to-day operation of our on-site lab.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out analytical and chemical testing of raw materials and finished products
- Preparing and sending samples for microbiological testing
- Carrying out environmental and plant hygiene swabbing
- Completing taste panels and managing product reference samples
- Reviewing test results and taking appropriate action when results fall outside specification, including re-sampling and re-testing
- Responding to requests for product release
- Maintaining accurate laboratory records and using LIMS or similar laboratory database systems
- Supporting internal and external monitoring procedures and completing scheduled internal audits
- Managing laboratory stock, including stock rotation and stock takes
- Maintaining excellent standards of housekeeping and safely disposing of laboratory waste
- Prioritising your workload to ensure testing is completed on time and laboratory KPIs are achieved
- Working safely at all times and helping to maintain a safe working environment for everyone on site

You’ll be trusted to work independently within an agreed schedule while also working closely with colleagues across the Technical Team and wider business.
What we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll have at least 12 months’ experience working in a laboratory environment and be keen to develop your knowledge within food manufacturing.
You’ll also need:
- Good IT and computer skills
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work
- The ability to organise and prioritise your workload effectively
- Confidence working independently as well as part of a team
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues at all levels
- The ability to remain accurate and organised when working under pressure
- A conscientious, diligent and trustworthy approach

A degree in Food Science, Chemistry or a related subject would be an advantage but is not essential.
