Join our leading national B-Corp certified property consultancy firm and help landowners navigate the interesting challenges and opportunities created by new infrastructure projects!
At Bidwells, we've been advising farmers, estates and landowners on infrastructure projects for decades. From the early days of large-scale onshore wind developments to today's grid expansion and renewable energy revolution, we've remained at the forefront of helping clients protect their interests whilst enabling the infrastructure needed for a greener, more sustainable future.
As demand for energy infrastructure continues to grow, we're looking for a Land Agent or Rural Surveyor to join our highly respected Grid & Infrastructure team. Whether negotiating land rights for substations, cabling routes, overhead lines or renewable energy developments, you'll be a trusted advisor and advocate for your clients throughout the project lifecycle. We are considering across experience levels.
This is a pivotal role and opportunity to work in a diverse and evolving market, supporting landowners with various landholdings across agricultural, commercial, residential and forestry across Scotland, while negotiating land agreements with major utility providers and renewable energy developers.
What you’ll be doing
- Visiting clients and advising on access rights, compensation claims and the practical issues arising from the installation of new infrastructure on their land.
- Negotiating land rights for electricity lines and cables and the sale of land for substations, including wayleaves, servitudes, leases, option agreements.
- Representing landowners in discussions with developers, utility companies and infrastructure providers.
- Liaising with clients, land agents, legal representatives, planning authorities, contractors and other key stakeholders to prepare consent documents.
- Client relationship management and communication. Understanding client needs and requirements.
- Identifying new opportunities for new business development, contributing to marketing and PR initiatives and network/represent at events.
- Internal relationship management and collaboration (sharing knowledge and referring business).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
