What makes planning at Elmbridge different?

Elmbridge is located within Surrey, approximately 17 miles south-west of Central London. The River Thames is the borough’s northern boundary and we share borders with the London Boroughs of Richmond and Kingston upon Thames and Guildford, Mole Valley, Runnymede, Spelthorne and Woking.

Elmbridge is fortunate to have a wide network of open space including 800 hectares of green and blue infrastructure owned and managed by the council. We also have the historic landscaped gardens at Painshill Park and Claremont.

The Planning and Environmental Health teams at Elmbridge are supported by a service-wide Business Support Team. This team is made up of talented, passionate people, determined to do their best work for Elmbridge. The team cover a varied workload including Land Charges.

We are looking to recruit a Land Charges technical officer who can support the current Senior Land Charges officer in the day-to-day processing of applications coming into the council. Experience in this work would be desirable, however, not essential as we provide a full training programme.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
