Job Description

Overview

Are you a land safety engineer looking to work on military vehicles, equipment, information systems and digitally enabled capabilities? Do you want to turn technical evidence into practical safety solutions for delivery teams, users and maintainers?

We’re expanding our defence land safety capability. Join us and support work across acquisition, platform integration, trials, land system certification, introduction into service and in-service change, while retaining opportunities to collaborate across our wider defence safety capability.

AtkinsRéalis is a world-class engineering services and nuclear organisation delivering complex and critical programmes across defence, aerospace, nuclear and other highly regulated sectors.

Join our established Safety & Environmental Assurance community; knowledge sharing and collaboration are at the heart of what we do.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Formal technical assurance, peer review and access to experienced land safety specialists.
  • Domain Communities of Interest and professional networks.
  • Regular team meetings, knowledge-sharing events and informal mentoring.
  • Career development support aligned wherever possible to your experience, interests and goals.

We aim to align assignments with your skills, interests and career goals while balancing client and business needs. We welcome applicants from industry, MOD and the Armed Forces, including those returning after a career break.

Assignments could include:

  • Safety engineering for military vehicles, equipment and new Army platforms, including upgrades and introduction into service.
  • Structured, digitally enabled safety cases using Claims, Arguments and Evidence and modern hazard-management tools.
  • Operational hazard logs and safety information designed to support users and maintainers.
  • Safety assurance for autonomous, software-intensive and information-enabled land capabilities.

Your role

You will support safety engineering and assurance across the acquisition, integration, introduction into service, operation, maintenance and modification of defence land systems. You will help turn technical evidence into practical safety arguments, controls and information that are usable by delivery teams, equipment authorities, users and maintainers.

  • Support the development and maintenance of safety cases, safety assessments and safety management plans for military vehicles, equipment and integrated land capabilities.
  • Create and maintain design and operational hazard logs, supporting hazard identification, risk assessment and risk-reduction activity.
  • Develop structured safety arguments covering safe-to-operate, maintained-correctly and operated-safely claims, supported by evidence from the Delivery Agent, Lead User and other responsible organisations.
  • Assess the safety implications of platform integration, equipment upgrades, software-intensive capability and in-service change.
  • Derive and manage safety requirements and supporting evidence through acquisition, trials, land system certification, acceptance and introduction into service.
  • Produce clear technical reports and safety information that support equipment decisions and remain useful to operators and maintainers.
  • Work with Delivery Teams, Delivery Agents, Lead Users, platform integrators, operators, maintainers, suppliers and assurance stakeholders.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
