Large Case Underwriter – Zurich

Working Hours and Location

  • Hours: Part-time, job-share, or full-time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Flexible working: Home-working contracts available
  • Closing date: 22nd July 2026

The Opportunity

At Zurich, we’re leading the charge in transforming the Retail Protection market to become the preferred choice for advisers, customers, and colleagues. As we grow, we’re seeking a passionate, detail-focused Large Case Underwriter to join our team.

This role is all about complexity meeting opportunity. You’ll specialise in assessing high-value Life, Critical Illness, and Income Protection applications—often with substantial Sum Assureds. Unlike standard underwriting, this role demands deep analysis of automatic medical reports, detailed exams, blood tests, financial questionnaires, and accounts.

You’ll collaborate closely with Reassurers, Sales, and Pricing teams to develop competitive, tailored solutions. Keeping advisers informed and nurturing strong relationships is key to delivering exceptional customer service.

Our employees work flexibly—part-time, flexible hours, job-sharing, or remote working. We’ll discuss individual needs during interviews to ensure we find the right fit.

Key Responsibilities

As a Large Case Underwriter, you’ll:

  • Assess high-value protection applications with precision and speed, aligning decisions with Zurich’s underwriting philosophy
  • Analyse and interpret medical reports, financial documentation, and risk factors with confidence
  • Collaborate with Reassurers, internal teams, and strategic accounts to create customised, competitive offers
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across Sales, Pricing, and other critical departments
  • Mentor and train team members, sharing expertise and fostering growth
  • Support our inbound phone line when required, ensuring exceptional customer experience
  • Drive continuous improvement with integrity and positive problem-solving

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
