The post is not recognised as a Deanery training post; however, the on-site training opportunities will be the same as the other ST3+ Doctors. The post could suit a UK postgraduate doctor in training looking for an out of programme experience in Paediatric Intensive care / Paediatric High dependency care or an international medical graduate applicant looking to gain experience in the acute Paediatrics in the UK, with a view to attaining CCT through the portfolio pathway (previously known as the CESR route).

They will have access to our general paediatrics regular teaching program in addition to in-house PCC educational activities. Our middle grade rota on PCC also includes two advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) who support research activities, simulation, and educational activities on PCC. PCC at UHNM is an active research centre and continues to partake in national ongoing research projects. PCC runs in-house and regional vascular ultrasound courses, NIV days, and HDU courses. PCC also conducts regular in-house simulation having access to high fidelity SIM mannequins. PCC is supported by a full-time nurse educator. PCC works closely with our excellent Paediatric Respiratory team, Paediatric LTV team, and complex care teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
