Want to take ultrafast laser technology from the lab into real-world systems?

Enjoy getting hands-on with femtosecond and picosecond lasers rather than staying purely theoretical?

Looking for a role where you can influence how next-generation laser systems are designed, built and optimised?

Our client is growing its laser development team and is looking for an Ultrafast Laser Scientist to work on the development of advanced short-pulse laser systems.

This is a hands-on opportunity combining laser physics, experimental development, modelling and system optimisation, with a strong focus on turning advanced concepts into robust, repeatable technology.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Why This Role is Great

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Design, build, align and optimise ultrafast laser systems
  • Work with picosecond and femtosecond architectures, including CPA-based systems
  • Characterise laser performance and investigate opportunities for improvement
  • Develop models of laser and amplifier behaviour using tools such as Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW

About You

Our client would love to speak with people who have experience across areas such as:

  • Ultrafast, short-pulse, high-power or solid-state lasers
  • Building, aligning and troubleshooting complex optical systems
  • Laser diagnostics and optical characterisation
