Laser Technical Lead – Aerospace & Nadcap

Preci-Spark is looking for an experienced Laser Technical Lead to provide technical leadership across our aerospace laser manufacturing processes.

We operate a wide range of laser equipment and technologies, including systems from TRUMPF, IPG and JK, across laser drilling, laser cutting and laser welding. This is a hands-on technical role supporting production, process development, problem solving and continuous improvement across multiple laser platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Engineering and Quality to ensure robust, capable and compliant processes.

  • Competitive rates of pay (depending on skill level and experience).

  • Day shift (Monday to Friday: between 07:45 and 16:30 with lunch between 12:30 and 13:00. Normally finishing at 14:15 on Friday.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership across laser drilling, cutting and welding.
  • Support a range of laser machine types and technologies.
  • Develop, optimise and control laser process parameters.
  • Support process qualification, validation and ongoing process control.
  • Troubleshoot production and quality issues.
  • Support Nadcap audits, compliance activities and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Quality on new product introduction.
  • Improve process capability, repeatability, cycle time and productivity.
  • Support tooling, fixturing and manufacturing method development.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to operators and technicians.
  • Support machine capability reviews and future equipment investment.
  • Drive standardisation and continuous improvement across the laser function.
  • Health, safety and environment compliance.

Essential Experience:

  • Significant experience in aerospace laser processing.
  • Strong practical experience of Nadcap-controlled laser processes.
  • Experience in laser drilling, laser cutting and/or laser welding.
  • Experience working across multiple laser platforms or technologies.
  • Strong process-development and troubleshooting capability.
  • Experience with process qualification, validation and controlled aerospace specifications.
  • Strong root-cause analysis and corrective-action experience.
  • Experience working within an AS9100 aerospace environment.
  • Previous aerospace experience and strong Nadcap experience are essential.
  • Experience with TRUMPF, IPG and/or JK laser systems would be highly desirable.

The Person:

We are looking for someone who is technically strong, practical and comfortable taking ownership of laser processes on the shopfloor. This is not a purely office-based engineering role. The successful candidate will be expected to work directly with machines, operators, engineers and quality personnel to solve problems and improve performance. The role may suit someone currently working as a: Laser Process Engineer, Senior Laser Engineer, Laser Applications Engineer, Laser Technical Specialist, Laser Manufacturing Engineer or Laser Team Leader.
