We are looking to recruit a Laundry Assistant to join the Hotel Services Department at NHS Shetland, based within the Gilbert Bain Hospital Laundry.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a practical and rewarding role. Laundry Assistants play a vital part in supporting patient care by ensuring a continuous supply of clean linen and uniforms across NHS Shetland services.

As part of a dedicated team, you will be involved in all aspects of the laundry process, including sorting, washing, drying, ironing, finishing, and distributing linen. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to follow procedures and instructions, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and hygiene.

We are looking for candidates with good communication skills who are reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a busy team. Applicants should have a good level of basic education and be able to undertake the physical aspects of the role. A full UK driving licence is desirable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
