Leicester City Council is seeking skilled and enthusiastic teachers to join our Learning, Communication and Interaction Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work strategically across schools, supporting inclusion, developing staff confidence and helping shape the delivery of SEND reforms across the city.
The Role
The Learning, Communication and Interaction team support and promote the education of pupils with additional needs, including specific learning difficulties, language and communication difficulties or autism, in Leicester city schools. The team is made of specialist teachers in the areas of specific learning difficulties, speech, language and communication and autism, teaching assistants.
We are currently recruiting for several Specialist Teacher roles within the Learning, Communication and Interaction Team. Opportunities include:
- Post-16 specialist support
- Specialist placement support
- Secondary school SEND support
Applicants will be asked at interview which role(s) they would like to be considered for.
These posts form part of Leicester City's SEND and Inclusion Reform Programme, offering an exciting opportunity to influence system-wide improvements and support the development of more inclusive practice across the city.
What You’ll Be Doing
As part of the LCI team, you'll manage your own caseload and work closely with school staff, families and pupils to provide guidance including assessing, advising, monitoring, evaluating and supporting with some direct teaching.
Based at New Parks House you’ll join a team of specialist Teachers and Teaching Assistants, and you’ll facilitate the sharing of good practices and networking across Leicester city schools. Spending most of the time in schools supporting staff and pupils you’ll be required travel to various sites to provide training where needed.

Following the SEND code of practise, you’ll work with school support teams to advise on the preparation and implementation of individual programmes and reviews of pupils’ progress. You’ll directly work with pupils to understand their learning and social needs. Making recommendations to the school, you’ll advise on support the needs of the individual and model how to implement your advice to ensure children on your caseload make progress in their areas of need. You’ll support the school SENCo around SEND processes and work collaboratively with a range of professionals, schools and families. Using your experience and knowledge of SEND, and proficient written and oral communication skills, you’ll attend meetings, write reports and provide recommendations for EHCP educational assessments as well as statutory reviews.
Through your work, you will help schools build sustainable inclusive practice, improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND and strengthen confidence in meeting a wide range of needs within local mainstream provision.
What You’ll Need
As a Qualified Teacher, you’ll hold Qualified Teacher Status. You’ll have significant experience in Special Educational Needs including experience with pupils with learning, communication and interaction needs (including Specific Learning Difficulties, Language and Communication Difficulties or AUTISM). Being a successful teacher in mainstream or SEN schools you’ll have the ability to work across all phases and in a variety of types of schools. Having an informed understanding of the key issues for SEND including specific learning difficulties, language and communication difficulties and autism, you’ll understand the key issues for SEND and LCI on a local and national level as well as knowledge of legislation and good practice. Using your excellent interpersonal skills, you will be able to relate positively to pupils, parents, school staff teams and other professionals. Highly organised, you’ll be a team player and have a passion for teaching.
