Lead Agentic Engineer (MedTech)

We’re partnering with an innovative company in the North of England that is building next-generation intelligent solutions. They are now looking for a Lead Agentic Engineer to help design, build and deploy AI-powered software solutions that will support clinical and operational decision-making.

This is a highly impactful role where you’ll be working at the intersection of software engineering and agentic AI, developing intelligent applications that combine modern full-stack development with emerging AI technologies.

You’ll join a forward-thinking engineering team that is scaling rapidly, with a strong focus on responsible AI, innovation and real-world application.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the development of AI-enabled applications, building scalable software solutions using React, TypeScript and Node.js while integrating LLMs, AI agents and automation capabilities.
  • Work closely with product and engineering teams to translate ideas into production-ready solutions, helping shape the future direction of agentic AI within the business.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for an experienced software engineer who is excited by agentic AI systems and real-world applications.

Key skills and experience include:

  • Strong experience with React, TypeScript and Node.js
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals including testing, version control and scalable design
  • Experience building modern web applications and production software
  • Experience working with LLMs, AI-powered applications or agentic workflows
  • Understanding of prompt engineering, RAG pipelines and tool-using AI systems
  • Experience integrating APIs, data sources and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)

Bonus experience:

  • Experience with AI agent frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, AutoGen or similar
  • Background in healthcare, life sciences or regulated environments
  • Experience with AI safety, evaluation or model monitoring
  • Familiarity with distributed systems or event-driven architectures

Location & working style

This role is based in Newcastle, with office working preferred. However, hybrid working can be considered for exceptional candidates.
