Lead AI Engineer

📍 London (Hybrid: 3 days onsite every two weeks)
💰 £90,000 - £100,000 + Bonus + Benefits
🏢 Permanent

We're partnering with a highly regarded global organisation that is investing heavily in its AI and data capabilities and is looking to hire a Lead AI Engineer to join its growing technology function.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced AI or Machine Learning Engineer looking to take ownership of high-impact projects while remaining close to the technology. You'll work alongside senior technology leaders to design, build, and deploy AI solutions that deliver tangible business value across the organisation.

The role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and mentorship within a modern cloud-first environment.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design, develop and deploy AI and machine learning solutions into production environments
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and deliver high-value AI use cases
  • Lead technical delivery of AI initiatives from proof of concept through to implementation
  • Build scalable and secure AI applications and services
  • Support the ongoing development and evolution of the organisation's AI platform
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices across the team
  • Work closely with architecture, data and platform teams to ensure robust and scalable solutions
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend opportunities for innovation

What we're looking for:

  • Strong commercial experience building and deploying AI or machine learning solutions
  • Excellent Python development skills
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally Azure
  • Understanding of MLOps, model deployment and production AI environments
  • Experience delivering GenAI, LLM or AI-powered applications
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions
  • Experience mentoring or leading other engineers is advantageous
