Practice Area
BCG Platinion launched in Germany in 2000 to add deep technical expertise to the Boston Consulting Group’s existing capabilities. Today, our presence spans across the globe, with offices in Asia, Europe, and South and North America. Our New York-based North American team began in 2014 and in 2017 acquired MAYA Design, a Pittsburgh-based digital design and innovation lab, to grow our capabilities around technology and design.
We support our clients’ total digital transformation through technology, design, cybersecurity, and risk management & financial engineering capabilities. And together with BCG, BCG Platinion’s interdisciplinary team of technical experts enable customized technical solutions and accelerate delivery value through new business platforms, application consolidations, and major system implementations.
What You'll Do
As a Lead AI Tech Architect in our TMT Product & Tech practice, you will work with CTOs, CIOs, CPOs, Chief Architects, and engineering leaders on their most important technology challenges. You will diagnose complex product and technology landscapes, identify the decisions that matter, define target architectures, and shape transformation roadmaps that connect technology choices to business outcomes.

You will help clients modernise products and platforms, simplify technology estates, scale SaaS and digital businesses, adopt AI-enabled capabilities, and improve engineering effectiveness. You will lead complex architecture modules end-to-end, guide multidisciplinary teams, influence senior stakeholders, and build alignment across business, product, and engineering organizations. You will also contribute intellectual leadership in areas where you have distinctive technology expertise.
You're Good At
Developing & Designing
- Analysing complex product, application, and platform landscapes and identifying the architectural constraints that matter most
- Translating business and product strategy into technology capabilities, target architectures, product boundaries, and integration patterns
- Designing modern product and platform architectures across SaaS, cloud-native, API-led, modular, distributed, and event-driven environments
- Transforming legacy products and technology estates through pragmatic replatforming, SaaS transformation, progressive decomposition, and selective replacement
- Shaping AI-enabled and agentic products and platforms, including data foundations, integration, observability, security, and governance
- Designing for critical quality attributes including resilience, scalability, performance, security, privacy, and recoverability
- Framing consequential technology decisions and articulating trade-offs across value, speed, cost, complexity, risk, and organizational capability
- Translating architecture recommendations into pragmatic transformation roadmaps and investment cases
Controlling & Managing
- Leading architecture assessments, technical due diligence, and independent assurance of complex technology programmes
- Reviewing vendor proposals and in-flight technical work for architectural quality, feasibility, and strategic alignment
- Establishing pragmatic architecture governance and managing technical debt through evolutionary architecture
- Guiding legacy remediation and technology transformation from architecture definition through mobilisation and delivery
- Improving engineering effectiveness through platform engineering, DevSecOps, SRE, automation, and developer experience
- Shaping product and technology operating models, including architecture ownership, team boundaries, and decision rights
- Driving architecture-led cost transformation and connecting technology choices to business value, engineering productivity, and total cost of ownership

- Advising BCG colleagues and clients on core technology and architecture concepts and coaching architects and consultants
- Contributing perspectives, methodologies, and intellectual property in areas of deep expertise
- Building networks across BCG's architecture, product, engineering, data, and AI communities and bringing the best of BCG to our clients
What You'll Bring
- Typically 10-15 years of experience across software engineering, architecture, technical leadership, digital delivery, or technology consulting
- Significant TMT experience, with deep expertise in at least one relevant Product & Tech domain
- Consulting experience combined with meaningful exposure to product, engineering, or technology organizations
- A strategic, hypothesis-driven approach to complex problems, applying an 80:20 mindset while maintaining sufficient technical depth
- Strong experience designing and evolving modern product, platform, and software architectures, including SaaS, cloud, and legacy modernisation
- Understanding of AI-enabled and agentic architecture, modern data foundations, and their implications for product and engineering organizations
- Ability to make and communicate high-impact decisions across application, cloud, platform, integration, data, and AI architectures
- Strong judgement in balancing architectural principles with business value, cost, delivery constraints, risk, and organizational maturity
- Experience with modern engineering practices and an understanding of how architecture, team structures, and ways of working interact
- Strong executive communication and storytelling skills, making complex technology topics accessible and decision-oriented
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and build credibility with senior business, product, and technology stakeholders
- Commercial awareness, distinctive expertise in a relevant technology area
- A university degree in a STEM-related field or business management; advanced degrees (MBA, MSc) are advantageous
