About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Application Developer to join our dynamic IT team at Saga Travel. This pivotal role involves leading the development, enhancement, and maintenance of our core travel applications and systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing scalable and resilient software solutions that underpin our customer-facing platforms and internal operations. Based in Folkestone with a hybrid working model, this position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the technological direction of a leading travel company. The Lead Application Developer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, UX designers, and other developers, to ensure our systems are robust, efficient, and aligned with business objectives.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience (at least 5 years) in application development, with a strong background in designing and implementing scalable solutions.
  • Expertise in modern programming languages such as Java, C#, or Python.
  • Solid understanding of software development methodologies including Agile and Scrum.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of database systems, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to lead and mentor a team of developers.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-level applications supporting our travel services.
  • Ensure the scalability, security, and performance of applications by implementing best practices and modern development standards.
  • Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions.
  • Coordinate with DevOps teams to streamline deployment pipelines and automate processes where possible.
  • Resolve complex technical issues swiftly to minimize system downtime and ensure a seamless user experience.
