National Grid is recruiting an Lead Asset Lifecycle Engineer - FACTS. This role can be based from our Warwick, Leeds, Bristol, Daines, or West Weybridge office - Hybrid working.

Job Purpose

Electricity Transmission (ET) is navigating through an exciting time as we evolve to meet Net Zero targets for 2050. By joining our Asset Engineering team, you will support the development and lifecycle management of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) assets across the electricity transmission system in England and Wales.

Working at the heart of National Grid Electricity Transmission's Asset Engineering team within Asset Operations, you'll play a key role in delivering the Great Grid Upgrade and ensuring our network remains safe, reliable, and resilient for the future.

We're looking for an experienced Lead Asset Lifecycle Engineer to lead the asset management of FACTS equipment and associated assets. In this pivotal role, you'll provide expert technical guidance throughout the asset lifecycle, developing policies, standards, and strategies that support long-term asset performance and reliability.

The role offers exciting opportunities to assess emerging technologies, work closely with global manufacturers and suppliers, witness equipment testing, and represent National Grid within the wider energy industry.

What You'll Do

  • Provide detailed technical engineering and asset management expertise relating to FACTS equipment and associated assets.
  • Create and amend policies, procedures, technical specifications, work specifications, internal standards, and technical guidance.
  • Support the development of technical specifications, policies, and asset strategies, identifying effective intervention strategies and innovation opportunities.
  • Lead and support Type Registration and Factory Acceptance Testing activities in line with relevant procedures.
  • Engage with external stakeholders and suppliers, supporting the ongoing development and performance of FACTS technologies.
  • Represent National Grid at relevant industry forums, committees, and conferences.
  • Support regulatory engagement and maintain awareness of industry developments.
  • Coach, mentor, and support less experienced members of the team.

About You

You'll be a self-starter who is eager to develop both business and technical skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and provide technical leadership.

Essential

  • Proven experience in the specification, design, development, testing, maintenance, and/or lifecycle management of FACTS equipment, including capacitive compensation, SVCs, and/or STATCOMs.
  • A numerate degree or demonstrable experience within a relevant STEM discipline.
  • Strong understanding of asset management principles.
  • Membership of, or the ability to become a member of, a relevant professional body.
  • Ability to work effectively to challenging deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking capability, combined with practical operational awareness.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of asset management systems such as IBM Maximo.
  • Institute of Asset Management Principles of Asset Management certification.
  • Chartered status with a relevant professional institution.
