Lead Back End Engineer – Insurtech / Agentic AI

UK Remote | Salary to c£100,000

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Back End Engineer to join a fast-growing Insurtech developing innovative Policy Administration System (PAS) technology for the insurance market. Working within a highly capable technology team, you will take a leading hands-on role in the development of scalable, robust back-end solutions, helping shape a modern insurance technology platform with Agentic AI at the heart of its development. This is very much a hands-on engineering position, suited to someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems and wants the opportunity to have a genuine influence within an ambitious startup environment. For someone with existing leadership capabilities, there will also be scope to coach and mentor other engineers as the team grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and enhance scalable back-end services and platform capabilities supporting the company’s PAS technology
  • Develop high-quality solutions using Python, PySpark and Microsoft Azure
  • Work with Agentic AI technologies, helping to integrate AI-driven capabilities into the platform and engineering workflows
  • Contribute to architectural and technical decisions as the platform continues to evolve
  • Build robust, secure and maintainable services capable of supporting increasingly complex insurance workflows
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering and other technical specialists in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Champion strong software engineering practices, including code quality, testing, performance and maintainability
  • Help identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, automation and platform scalability
  • Potentially coach and mentor less experienced engineers, while remaining highly hands-on technically

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience within Insurance technology and Policy Administration Systems would be particularly attractive, who can demonstrate relevant platform and Agentic AI experience. Previous technical leadership, coaching or mentoring experience would be advantageous, but this is not a pure management role – we are looking for someone who still enjoys being close to the technology and writing high-quality code.

The Opportunity

This is a chance to join an ambitious Insurtech at an exciting stage of its development, working on modern PAS technology where AI is a genuine part of the product and engineering strategy rather than simply an add-on. The role offers considerable scope to influence technical direction and, for the right person, to take on increasing technical leadership and mentoring responsibility as the business and engineering team grow.
