Lead Children’s Worker
We’re looking for a Lead Children’s Worker to join our Children with Disabilities service in Springburn, providing care and support throughout the night.
Our short-break service gives children and young people with disabilities a safe and nurturing place to stay, while supporting their confidence, independence and individual development. As part of the night team, you’ll make sure each child feels safe, comfortable and well supported, while taking responsibility for leading the shift and maintaining high standards of care throughout the night.
This role is open to female applicants only. Being female is an Occupational Requirement for this role under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the overnight shift, coordinating colleagues and making sure responsibilities are clearly allocated.
- Provide personal care sensitively and respectfully, including support with toileting, dressing, eating, drinking and personal hygiene.
- Take responsibility for running the overnight respite centre when the Team Leader or Service Manager is not present.
- Follow individual care plans and risk assessments to provide safe, consistent support.
- Administer medication safely in line with individual care plans and organisational procedures.
- Support children with mobility needs and ensure their safety, dignity and wellbeing.
- Respond calmly and confidently when children need additional support or display challenging behaviour.
- Keep care plans, records and supporting documentation accurate and up to date.
- Communicate clearly with colleagues, families and other professionals.
- Support and mentor colleagues, helping the whole team provide high-quality care.
About You
You’ll be an experienced and compassionate care professional who is confident taking responsibility and making decisions during a night shift. You’ll have an SVQ 3 in Social Care (Children), HNC or equivalent SCQF Level 7 qualification and experience of working with children, ideally including children with additional support needs. You’ll have experience supporting individuals who may display challenging behaviour and be able to remain calm and focused when situations are demanding or priorities change. You’ll bring strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills, alongside a genuine commitment to providing safe, person-centred care. Experience in care, education or youth work and building positive relationships with families would be an advantage. You’ll need to be a member of the PVG Scheme and registered with the SSSC, meeting the standards required for your registration. As we do our work in Christ’s name, you’ll need to be respectful of our Christian ethos and able to work within it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
