Join our Children with Disabilities service in Springburn
As a Lead Children’s Worker working night shifts, you’ll support children and young people during their short-break stays.
You’ll help provide a safe, calm, and supportive environment throughout the night, making sure each child receives care that reflects their individual needs. As a Lead Children’s Worker, you’ll combine hands-on support with the responsibility of leading the shift, making decisions, and supporting colleagues to provide consistently high-quality care.
Our service provides short-break stays for children and young people with disabilities, helping them build confidence and independence in a caring and safe environment.
This role is open to female applicants only. Being female is an Occupational Requirement for this role under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
What You’ll Do
- Take the lead during night shifts, coordinating the team and allocating responsibilities.
- Provide personal care based on each child’s individual needs, including support with toileting, dressing, eating, drinking, and personal hygiene.
- Take responsibility for the overnight respite centre in the absence of the Team Leader or Service Manager.
- Help children feel safe, settled, and supported throughout their stay.
- Follow individual care plans and risk assessments, keeping records and documentation accurate and up to date.
- Safely administer medication in line with individual care plans and procedures.
- Support children with mobility needs safely and sensitively.
- Respond calmly and confidently when children need additional support or situations become challenging.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, and other professionals.
- Support and mentor colleagues, helping maintain consistently high standards of care.

About You
- You’ll be someone who combines warmth and compassion with the confidence to take responsibility during a night shift.
- You’ll have an SVQ 3 in Social Care (Children), HNC, or equivalent SCQF Level 7 qualification, along with experience of working with children, ideally including children with additional support needs.
- You’ll be comfortable supporting children who may display challenging behaviour and will bring strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
- You’ll also be able to stay calm, make sound decisions, and maintain high standards of care throughout the night.
- Experience in care, education, or youth work and building positive relationships with families would be an advantage.
- You’ll need to be a member of the PVG Scheme and registered with the SSSC, meeting the standards required for your registration.

Requirements
