At Mallard Short Breaks, we support children and young people with disabilities to enjoy time away from home in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.
As a Lead Children’s Worker on nights, you’ll help make sure every young person feels safe, comfortable and well supported throughout their stay. You’ll provide hands-on care while taking additional responsibility for leading the night shift and helping ensure the service runs safely and smoothly.
You’ll get to know each young person’s individual routines, communication styles and support needs, providing reassurance and consistent care throughout the night.
What you’ll do
- Lead the night shift and support colleagues to provide safe, consistent care
- Provide personal care and support based around each young person’s individual needs and overnight routine
- Support young people who wake or need additional reassurance during the night
- Administer medication safely and maintain accurate records
- Respond calmly and appropriately to changing or challenging situations
- Help ensure a safe, settled environment and a smooth handover to the day team
About You
You’ll have an SVQ Level 3 in Social Care (Children), HNC or equivalent SCQF Level 7 qualification and experience of working with children, ideally those with additional support needs. You’ll be confident providing personal care and supporting young people who may display behaviour that challenges. Calm, dependable and organised, you’ll have the confidence to take responsibility for a night shift, make appropriate decisions and support both young people and colleagues throughout the night.

Role Requirements
- Be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and undertake the necessary vetting checks
- Be registered with SSSC and meet the standards and criteria for registration
- Have the relevant permission to work in the UK as granted by UK Visas and Immigration
